Different Types of STDs

STDs are most common in teens and young adults ages 15 to 25. Many believe that this number is so high due to the fact that at such a young age, they take more risks. Think about it. When you were a teenager, you thought the world evolved around your friends. You wanted to do everything that your friends did. Especially dress alike. I guess most of it was peer pressure.

STDs are still on the rise. This is mainly because parents are still afraid of talking to their kids about sex. Why? When we should want our children to make better choices than we did growing up. Parents and kids need to know the facts of STDs. They need to know that THEY can get one if they have unprotected sex. Whether you have a boy or girl. The facts are still the same, only they just "show up" in our bodies a different way.

Here are some basic facts about some STDs.

HIV is the #1 killer these days. People can have HIV in their body (dormant) for up to 10 years! And never even knew that they had it. So, imagine over a 10 year life span the number of sexual partners you've had unprotected sex with. Now, depending on your circumstances, that number could be high. Having sex whether using protection or not, your still at risk of being infected with any disease. Symptoms of HIV include: fever and night sweats, discoloration of the skin, sudden weight loss, and severe fatigue. Also, many times if you have a TB skin test and it comes back positive, a HIV test will be done too (and/or vice versa). Currently, there is no cure for HIV/AIDS virus. Its symptoms are controlled by medications.

Chlamydia is one of the most common STDs contracted by teens. Usually since you don't have any symptoms, it is often called the "silent" disease. Some of its common symptoms may include pain during sexual intercourse, burning when urinating, cloudy vaginal discharge, and lower abdominal pains. Therefore, Chlamydia is curable. Yet, it is very important for you and your partner to get treated at the same, to prevent re-infection. If left untreated, there is the possibility of being unable to have children.

Genital Herpes has been around for a long time in the United States. Some people even believe as far back as Romeo and Juliet. Yep, that long ago. But really, this is still a very serious disease today. Most people first think of herpes when they get a fever blister This is a minor stage of the disease. Although with the next phase of this disease, normally you only get it through sexual contact. The main symptoms of genital herpes include the outbreaks of rashes, and fever blisters that can be very painful while taking weeks to heal. Currently, there is no cure for genital herpes. The symptoms are controlled with medications.

I hope those 3 STDs can give you some insight about how serious STDs are. My advice to you is that you talk with your children. All children need to know about this. Younger children need to know their major parts of their body by NAME (it has been proven that "predators" stay away from children that know their body parts). As for teenagers, talk to them about all the risk of unprotected sex. Let them see pictures of what some of these STDs could do to them. Yep, put some fear into them for them to take you serious. But above all, try to build a relationship with your children so that they can communicate with you. And build trust with them.

Even with all your efforts, your children sometimes still do want they want to. I hate to say it, but, they live and learn from their mistakes. But even then, we're still their parents and have to love them and continue to accept their choices.

The Different Signs of STDs

The first thing one should find out about STDs is who gets them. These, sexually transmitted diseases do not discriminate: You can be of any age, race, religion, financially secure or not, any education level and hold any job from a blue collar one to a CEO. You could be a Jane Doe down the street or some big shot found in the news. Point is anyone who is sexually active is at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease or infection that is why whether or not you think you can get an STD, get tested for you may never know if you have one before it's too late.

While the signs and symptoms of STD's can vary depending on the type of infection, being aware of the signs and symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases can help you stay healthy. Be on the lookout for these warning signs and if you feel you might have them, even vaguely or remotely, it would be for the better to get tested at a STD clinic near you. Better safe than sorry, after all.

In women, symptoms may include itching around the genitals and/or discharge from the vagina. Recurring severe vaginal yeast infections that are characterized by white milky discharge, a foul odor, and itching may also be present. If you think you may have an STD, never hesitate to seek professional help and get tested at a STD clinic.

Common signs of bacterial STDs are itchiness, sores, and unusual discharge coming from the genitals. However, in most cases, they rarely appear with symptoms and you may be carrying the bacteria without knowing it. If you are sexually active, getting tested on a regular basis can help determine whether or not you have an STD or not. You can catch the disease early on, even without symptoms.

On the other hand, one may also get fungal STDs. People living with HIV get sick for one reason: they usually have opportunistic infections. There are several types of opportunistic infections that we have to be concerned with and one of them is fungal opportunistic infections. These fungal STDs are usually complications of other STD since they arise due to the body's lessened capabilities to fight them off since they are more focused with your current STD infection. Avoid getting this complication all together by getting tested for STDs. The sooner you treat them, the less likelihood will these opportunistic infections appear.

The correct and consistent use of latex condoms during sexual intercourse- vaginal, anal, or oral-can greatly reduce a person' s risk of acquiring or transmitting most STDs. However, they only protect you from the seminal fluids but not from other bodily secretions that may still infect you. Meaning to say, they may greatly reduce the risk but are not 100% accurate. Getting routine tests at STD clinics are still your best option to diagnose STDs early and prevent them from recurring.

Protecting oneself and others against STDs is important because many of these diseases have serious complications. AIDS prevention is important because HIV is a life threatening disease that can cause serious illness that damages life entirely. Prevent the spread of the disease and increases your chances of survival by getting routine STD check-ups to know if you are infected or not.

Know More About STD and Its 25 Different Types

A total of 25 different types of STD have been listed and grouped under STD. It is their nature to be easily transmitted sexually. Aside from sexual transmission, when the wound is open, these diseases can also be transmitted through exchanging of body liquids and infection. Since STD has so many types, in most cases, an infected person is struggling to identify what type of STD is striking him.

Among the 25 STDs, six of them are believed to be the most widespread. The six most common STDs are AIDS, syphilis, herpes, Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and genital warts. From the six STDs, Chlamydia is said to be on top as the most prevalent. Every year, there are three million detected cases of Chlamydia and it continues to increase from time to time. In early stages of Chlamydia, it can be treated by antibiotics. But if Chlamydia cannot be treated immediately, it can cause pelvic inflammatory disease which is believed to be the reason of infertility.

A person with STD will suffer from genital pain, itch, and sores as the early symptoms of the STD. Men with STDs will encounter symptoms such as pain throughout urination, testicular pain and swelling, and penile discharge.

Majority of STDs can be cured. But one has to remember that STDs can be the reason for hassles and disabilities in one's life. STD can cause problems that can make life miserable. STDs like gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and syphilis can cause PID or the so-called Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. This disease can be a person's long term and serious problem. It can cause infertility and pelvic pain. There is also a kind of STD that can be the reason for genital warts and can be the cause of cervical cancer. This disease is called Human Papilloma Virus or HPV.

Chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea can be treated. Before a person will undergo for a treatment, he must first take an STD test to confirm his suspicion that he has an STD infection. Those who want to undergo any test must always remember that all STD tests are not 100% accurate. When you have the feeling that you have been infected or if you are experiencing STD symptoms, go immediately to an STD clinic and ask for an STD test.

It is a sad fact that Hepatitis B, HIV, and Human Papilloma Virus are the kind of STDs that cannot be cured, but these can be treated and managed. Taking an STD test is the best thing a person can do if there are some reproductive system and genital irregularities. The first step is going to the doctor or to any STD clinic and have a blood sample test. After the test and you found out that you are an STD carrier, seek immediately for a medical treatment. Early detection of STD is very important so that an infected person can get appropriate treatment.

What Are the Signs of Different STDs?

Although many sexually transmitted diseases can remain undetected or dormant for years, it's good to have a few guidelines for when you do find that you have an STD symptom. You should make yourself aware of what is out there, and what the common symptoms and signs of sexually transmitted diseases are. If you think you might have an STD, or might be apprehensive that you caught on, then how long will it take for certain STD symptoms to show up?

Let's look at the average time for symptoms of common STDs to appear: Chlamydia - Although many people never have any symptoms, when symptoms do appear it is usually one to three weeks after exposure to the bacteria.

Gonorrhea - Gonorrhea frequently shows no sign of infection. When symptoms do appear they may show up as early as two days after exposure, or take as long as one month.

Syphilis - Sores called Chanres may appear any time between 10 to 90 days after exposure to the bacterium.

Genital Warts - most people will experience their first outbreak within three months of initial infection.

Genital Herpes - There may be zero signs or symptoms, but usually show up within two weeks of exposure to the virus.

HIV - Most infected people will test positive within 3 months, however, the majority of infected people will not show symptoms for months or even years.

Hepatitis B - hepatitis B usually show up between four to six weeks after infection.

Needless to say, if you find yourself with any of these symptoms you should contact a medical facility and make an appointment for a sexually transmitted disease test immediately. As mentioned before, if you are suspicious that you may have come in contact with a partner who is positive with a STD, meaning they are infected, then that is yet another reason why you should have a test conducted.

As you can see, the majority of the most common sexually transmitted diseases usually do not even show signs of symptoms, or the symptoms do not appear for quite some time after the person has become infected.

Again, if you have any doubts, or you just want to be cautious make an appointment to have an STD test done immediately. You will be forever grateful that you did. Don't wait until it's too late, go get a sexually transmitted test conducted as soon as possible.
