The Dreaded STD Diseases

Sexually Transmitted Diseases, also known as sexually transmitted infection or venereal disease is an illness that is transmitted between humans or animals by means of sexual behaviours, which includes vaginal intercourse, oral sex and anal sex. A person may be infected and has risks of potentially infecting others without showing signs or symptoms of the disease. Some STDs can be transmitted via the use of IV drug needles, as well as childbirth and breastfeeding. Sexually transmitted diseases have been notorious for hundreds of years.

The rise of STD Diseases are becoming very prevalent in the country and the world over that it has come to the point where it is now quite alarming. The most prevalent among these diseases is Chlamydia. It is an STD that is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. It is a disease that is known to not show symptoms until it has progressed to a certain point which makes it difficult to detect and treat. If it does show symptoms, the common signs are increase in vaginal discharge for women, a watery discharge from the male genitalia in men, pain during urination, and discomfort during intercourse.

Another well known STD is Gonorrhoea. It is caused by the Neisseria gonorrhoea bacterium, and like all other STD Diseases, it is passed on via sexual contact. Signs for males are the presence of a white or yellowy discharge coming from the male sex organ, discharge from the anus, and inflammation of the testicles and prostate gland. For the females, change from the normal vaginal discharge as well as discharge and irritation from the anus is seen as well.

As you can see, symptoms are vague and not isolated to one STD. By comparing only two STDs, you can see for yourself that by basing on symptoms alone, one cannot really determine the cause of their symptoms. There are still other STDs that have similar and even the same symptoms which makes it even harder. And unfortunately, the treatment for each is different, no matter how similar their symptoms are.

Prevention is the key in addressing incurable sexually transmitted diseases and infections such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. The most effective way of preventing sexual transmission of STDs is to avoid contact of body parts or fluids which can lead to transfer with an infected partner. No sexual contact minimizes the risk of getting infected. Also, the proper use of condoms reduces contact and risk. However, if prevention will not work or sexual contact cannot be totally removed, then the next best option would be early diagnosis. Visiting STD clinics and getting routine and regular check-ups will save your life, literally, when it comes to these illnesses. They have laboratory and diagnostic tests that they can use in order for them to detect the presence of an STD, know which one it is, and determine what kind of treatment method will be the most effective. That is why going to an STD clinic will be your best bet to avoid getting contaminated by any of these dreadful diseases.
