What Are the Symptoms of STDs?

People are very funny about sexually transmitted diseases. Despite our society's increased openness about sexuality in general, STDs are still a huge taboo: people find it embarrassing to admit that they've even been tested (even though it's a mature decision to make) let alone if they ever had treatment for a disease.

As such, people are always going to great pains to avoid making an appointment for an STD test. They increasingly do internet research to find out symptoms and try and figure out what's wrong with a self diagnosis, even though this really isn't the sort of thing that you should second guess - untreated STDs can lead to infertility, brain damage, heart disease, birth defects and in some cases death. And of course, they can also be spread onto others, giving them the risks as well. If you are in any doubt about your health, or think you have been taking risks, then you should really get an STD test.

So although I'm going to outline some of the symptoms that sufferers might see, this is not a substitute to a proper test for two reasons.

1) Many of the symptoms of STDs can be easily confused with those of similar conditions

2) In a good proportion of cases, those with STDs will exhibit no symptoms at all!

But with those caveats out of the way, here are the symptoms you might see if you have picked up a sexually transmitted disease:

In Women

· Sores, blisters or bumps around the genitals, anus and/or mouth

· A burning sensation while urinating

· An itching sensation while urinating

· Itching, unusual odour and/or unusual discharge from the vagina or anus

· Pains or aches in the lower abdomen

· Bleeding from the vagina outside of your period

In Men

· Sores, blisters or bumps around the genitals, anus and/or mouth

· A burning sensation during urination

· An itching sensation during urination

· Unusual discharge from the penis

· Itching, pain or discharge from the anus

Bear in mind that if these symptoms do indeed represent a sexually transmitted disease's presence and that the likelihood is that said STD is from a recent sexual encounter that symptoms can take weeks, months and sometimes ever years to manifest themselves. This means that not only can it be difficult to figure out where you may have got it, but also that if symptoms don't show up immediately this does not mean you have avoided catching a STD.

To conclude and reiterate: although the above symptoms may appear in many STD sufferers, the truth is that there is only one way to be absolutely certain of your health: book a STD test. The symptoms could be a STD, they might be related to something else, or they might be nothing to worry about! If you have any reason to believe that you may have caught a sexually transmitted disease, book an STD test today, and rest with peace of mind - there's really nothing to be embarrassed about.

Do I Have Genital Herpes? - The Symptoms of Genital Herpes

You are feeling quite different a few days after you have had unprotected sexual intercourse and now you are asking: Do I have genital herpes? Well only a medical doctor can truly say if you are infected or not but if you really want to know more about this STD then read on.

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is caused by the herpes simplex virus-2 (HSV-2). One main problem with herpes is that sometimes it does not show any symptoms. This unfortunately means that people could be carrying the disease and not be aware of it, posing a huge risk to both themselves and any sexual partners they may have. If symptoms are present, they are usually very general and common STD symptoms (such as inflammation, burning urination and flu like symptoms) making it easy to misdiagnose the disease as some other illness.

An important thing that people should know about genital herpes is that one of its most common symptoms is the appearance of lesions or blisters. The blisters are usually filled with fluid and has an appearance that is similar to cold sores except that instead of appearing in the surrounding areas of the mouth, herpes blisters appear in and around the genital area. After a few days, the blisters will turn into open sores then crust will appear on top it which signals the healing stage. The whole genital herpes breakout cycle can last from two weeks to a month.

Herpes blisters are usually accompanied by other symptoms which include flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, weakness and muscle pain. Individuals with genital herpes can also experience painful urination.

Another fact that you should know about this STD is that it currently has no known cure. So once contracted, the virus that causes this disease stays in your body for life. Some people only have one breakout and then never hear from the disease again, but this is very uncommon. It is far more likely that a breakout will happen again after the initial one, and periodically throughout the sufferer's life.

Luckily, despite the rumors and horror stories about herpes, the symptoms are in fact very easy to control with diet and the right treatment.

If you notice the symptoms mentioned above, your best course of action is to see a doctor for an official diagnosis, and then organize treatment and a diet plan to combat the outbreaks.

Same Symptoms, Not Always an STD

When things aren't quite shipshape down below, it's very easy to think the worst. In these situations, you should invariably undertake STD testing, as you may have contracted something which, left untreated, could affect your fertility, and can easily be passed on to others. However, before the panic sets in, bear in mind that some of the symptoms of STDs are shared by other, less serious conditions.

Yeast Infections

Yeast infections are not solely a product of sexual intercourse by any means, and are most prominent in women, many of whom often suffer from recurring symptoms. However, these infections can also be passed onto men. Caused by the overgrowth of an organism known as Candida Albicans, a yeast infection can be very uncomfortable for the person carrying it. Similarly to sexually transmitted infections, the infection may have no visible physical symptoms. However, it is likely that both male and female sufferers will experience itchiness in the affected area. There may also be a burning sensation whilst going to the toilet. Though not a serious affliction, yeast infections can cause a great deal of discomfort, and it is best to treat them sooner rather than later. If symptoms continue, then it is still a good idea to get an STD test.

Fordyce Spots

Fordyce spots are often mistaken by men for something a lot more serious such as herpes or genital warts. These spots form on the penis and are often the same colour as the surrounding skin, looking a little like goose bumps. In some cases, they can turn into slightly darker coloured patches that look a little more like a mole. Though it is still worth taking an STD test to rule out the possibility of more severe diseases such as warts and herpes, for the most part these spots are quite harmless and should not lead to any further problems. In terms of appearance, it is best not to worry too much as the spots are a lot more visible to you than they would be to anybody else.

Sebaceous Gland

Microscopic glands in the skin, sebaceous glands around the genital area are often mistaken for sexually transmitted diseases. These glands are usually attached to hair follicles, but can occasionally appear on hairless areas of the body such as the penis. These glands release a slightly oily sebum which lubricates the skin, but also gives the area a slightly rashy appearance which can easily be mistaken for an STD. Sebaceous glands around the genital area do not generally put you at risk, and cannot be transferred through sexual contact, but it is best to get an STD test anyway to make sure that there is nothing more serious wrong.

It is always a good idea to make sure that you undertake regular STD testing to ensure that you are in good sexual health and not at risk of passing on an STD to anybody else. However, it is also important to bear in mind that there can be other problems in your nether regions, and though the implications may not be so serious, they can be just as uncomfortable. It is worth going for an STD test if you show any symptoms that are out of the ordinary.

STD Signs and Symptoms

Sexually transmitted diseases or more commonly known as STDs are generally passed on through any kind of sexual activities; it may be vaginal, oral or anal sex. It is easily passed on to others who are sexually active. Other risk factors are having multiple sex partners, frequent change in sex partners and unprotected sex. This is probably the reason why STD cases continue to rise despite the different preventive ways that many organizations are spreading.

It is important that one who is at high risk from infection be informed of what to do in case of infection and what to do to prevent having it. If one shows symptoms or signs, he or she should consult the doctor right away. This may help the person get an STD test. STD test can confirm whatever health condition that the person has. It is also a way to get treatment right away. It is important to know what type of disease has infected the person because there are different types of treatment for the different types of STDs.

Some common symptoms of STDs are pain during sex and urination, watery and abnormal discharge, itching, strong odor of discharge, sores, blisters, lumps, bumps, weight loss, fatigue and headaches. For women, some STDs may show more and much painful than in men. These include lower abdomen pains, fever and bleeding in between menstrual periods.

As soon as these symptoms become present, the person suspecting should seek for medical help right away. STD testing is now readily available at some local health sites and hospitals. Some private STD testing clinics are now sited in many different states in the U.S to help stop the spread of these life threatening diseases. Once diagnosis is done, the person who is positively infected with STD should undergo treatment. The period of treatment will depend on the severity of the disease. If the disease was detected during its initial or primary stage, then treatment will just take a short period of time. This shows how important it is to detect the disease at its earliest time. This is to prevent further health complications that the disease may give to its patients.

One way to treat STD immediately is to take the test and consult a doctor. This way, proper diagnosis shall be provided and accurate medications may be prescribed. Different concerned organizations have come up with more affordable and sometimes even free STD testing to make sure that the rise of STD cases will be controlled or even stopped. Through testing and treatment, further health complications may be able to be stopped and prevention to spread the disease will be administered. Preventive actions may also be taken to help the advocacy of those different organizations concerned on other people's health.

The spread of STDs may be controlled if people will just practice preventive measures. One may practice abstinence to make sure that no sexually transmitted disease will infect him or her. Another way is to use condoms during sexual activities. This is a big help in case abstinence is not possible. Condoms can lower down the chances of becoming infected with STDs.

What Are the STD Gonorrhea Symptoms?

Human race has been gifted with a priceless endowment, and that is love. Love which is responsible for the union of souls, for the creation of life, is a boon. But now even this valuable gift does not come without curses and threats. The squalid head of ills and diseases seem to be strangulating the pristine gift. Sexually transmitted diseases are something which is no more unheard of. Here in this article we shall concentrate over sexually transmitted disease (STD) called the gonorrhea and its symptoms.

3/4 of the cases in.U.S.A dealing with gonorrhea are a testimony to the fact that it is more common in young men and women between the ages of 16 to 30. It becomes quite laborious to diagnose gonorrhea as the symptoms are generally not that distinct and vehement.

Usually the symptoms tend to surface within ten days after the infection has been contracted. In many cases they take as long as thirty days to surface. The diagnosis becomes very difficult in women because the symptoms are such that women tend to make the mistake of thinking it to be a just a mild infection of bladder. STD gonorrhea symptoms in men are a little more distinct. We shall now discuss the symptoms in more detail.

Painful urination

In women, we find painful urination and irritation in the vaginal and moist regions. In men along with pain, there is also an aching sensation in the testicles, as the epididymis linking the testicles gets infected.

Later stages of infection of cervix

STD gonorrhea symptoms include irritation in the cervix of a woman. This later makes the lady feel nauseated, and dizzy. When left untreated a fluid discharge also takes place from the vagina which acquires a yellow color and vaginal wall bleeding is also common during times of periods. The lady can also grow febrile after some time due to high temperatures.

Swollen testicles

Among men we find that the testicles after the infection get swollen. A yellow or green discharge occurs from the penis tip. And even the penis grows bloody in color and looks for very tender. The glands situated in the groin areas get swollen as well, and irritation in the thigh regions occurs frequently.

Infection on anus and throat

It is found that the anus gets infected and this STD gonorrhea symptom includes painful bowel movements and passing of blood with stool. A throat infection affects the tonsils and from this region the whole body becomes prone to infection.

If the STD gonorrhea symptoms are not controlled properly then it can result in ectopic pregnancy in women. In this case the egg after fertilization grows outside the uterus; this situation can be life threatening as well.

Common Symptoms of STDs in Women

Sexually transmitted diseases are a reality in today's society and understanding how to avoid exposure to them and detecting their symptoms can help you live a healthier life. Many of the most common STD's can be transferred between partners with a single sexual encounter and may take months to develop symptoms. This makes detection especially difficult and increases the changes of passing these STD's along to other partners. Even though there may be particular symptoms that are more prevalent in certain types of STD's, there are 3 common symptoms of STD's for women that are present in many of them. If you experience any of these symptoms you should schedule a visit with your doctor to see if you require treatment.

The most common symptom that accompanies many of the STD's is pain in the lower abdomen or groin area. This pain may only appear for short periods of time but can be quite severe when it does occur. In women this type of pain can also extend to the vaginal canal and may occur during sex for certain STD's. For other forms of disease like genital herpes the pain may be more localized and accompany the outbreak of lesions. This pain may also happen during urination and may also involve a burning sensation that becomes worse over time if treatment is not started.

Another common symptom of STD's for women is an unfamiliar vaginal discharge. In some cases this may appear as a cloudy liquid that happens during, or immediately following sexual intercourse. With a severe infection this discharge may also contain blood, which may also indicate internal abrasions or infections. These can be serious and need to be addressed immediately to prevent the spread of the disease.

Many of the STD's that produce these types of discharges may also cause a burning or itching sensation at the site of the discharge. This can vary widely between patients and is related to which STD you have contracted and how advanced the symptoms are. In women, this discharge may also be accompanied by a strong vaginal odor, which should be very apparent.

The third more obvious symptom is any type of skin irritation or growth in the groin area. Some STD's will produce visible bumps or skin lesions to indicate that the underlying virus is present. In the case of genital warts symptoms in women, these bumps will occur at the site of the initial sexual contact. Even though the size and location of these can vary, any unusual bumps you notice should be a cause for concern and trigger a checkup with your doctor.

In some STD's this skin irritation will be minor and may go unnoticed for some time. In others it will be more pronounced and may also include itching, burning or bleeding depending on its location and the size of the affected area. These areas may also be sore to the touch and can be painful during sexual contact.

Symptoms Of Yeast Infection That Will Help You Know Your Status

Are you wondering if you have yeast infection? You probably have been noticing some things in a certain part of your body and you are wondering what it is. You will need to be certain you are seeing the symptoms of yeast infection before proceeding to look for treatment. Most Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) have similar symptoms with yeast. Therefore, you want to be sure of what you have so that you don't end up administering Candida infection treatment for an STD.

Symptoms of yeast infection is more pronounced in the womenfolk than in men. In most cases, a man will not have Candida infection except when transferred by his wife or partner to him. The reason why it is more common in women is because their body seems to be more conducive for the propagation of the infection. The vaginal area is always moist and this is exactly what the Candida Albicans need to propagate.

The symptoms of Candida infection that can be felt and seen in women include:

• A Yeast-like smell in the vaginal area

• Whitish to yellowish thick discharge from the vagina (this is seen as yeast overpopulates)

• Abdominal pains which is felt during urination and sexual intercourse

• Itchiness in the affected area

• Inflammation in the vagina or vulva region

• Redness or soreness of the affected area.

These symptoms aggravate from itching to redness and soreness which graduates to the whitish and yellowish discharge in the vagina. So if you are feeling the itch alone, you had better start paying attention before the condition worsens.

In men, the symptoms are more like:

• Dry or scaly skin around the affected area, usually around the scrotum

• Whitish discharge from the penis

• Abdominal pains

• General uneasiness in the affected area

If you have yeast infection, it is advised that you do not have sexual intercourse without protection because there is the tendency of re-infection and this further increases the rate of propagation of the infection. There is however no need to panic as there are natural remedies as well as administrable home remedies that are very efficient in taking care of the ailment. Any treatment you choose should be able to take care of the itches, the sores, the burns as well as the root cause which means the replacement of the missing "good bacteria".

I advice that you seek natural remedies as they are very effective and fast in removing the infection from your body once and for all.

Making a Mature Decision in Dealing With STD Symptoms

Society is more open about sexuality nowadays. There's not much taboo when a person discusses his or her sexual life. Even youngsters in their early teens engage in sex, and multiple partners at that. And for adults, sex has become a matter of mutual consent, regardless of whether it is ethical or not. People have become more aware of their freedom and choice, to the point that sex or sexuality is expressed irresponsibly. There are many consequences of this practice, one of which is sexually transmitted diseases. Statistics pertaining to STDs are on the rise, especially as such diseases are acquired through sexual contact.

There may be more openness about sexuality but the issue of STDs still remain hush-hush. Stigma is still attached when they say somebody has a STD. So when a person happens to contract a sexually transmitted disease, their initial reaction is that of shame. One would often be embarrassed to admit they have it, or even disclose that they had a test. When somebody suspects they have this disease, chances are they would be confused. Primarily about who to tell it to, or where to find help. If you happen to be in this dilemma, you ought to have a mature perception about the issue.

A sexually transmitted disease is a disease, much more like other diseases. And in the same manner that you would deal with any disease, you ought to get yourself tested. Taking a STD test is the first step to get an accurate diagnosis. In fact, having a STD test is a mature decision. Not only is it an indication of sensibility, but a matter of taking responsibility- for the consequences of your conduct. And even more so, it is the proper means to take care of your health and yourself. If a sexually transmitted disease is neglected and left untreated, there can be massive consequences.

Untreated STD can lead to infertility, heart problems, brain damage, birth defects and even death. Not to mention that if you are a carrier of a virus, you can spread it on to others. If you feel you are at risk, it's best to take the necessary measures. Have you had multiple sexual partners, or else had unsafe sex? You could be at risk, and to avoid further damage, have yourself tested. There are STD symptoms which manifest a few days after intercourse, some only noticeable after several months. Some STD symptoms show themselves after a year, and worse, STD symptoms would not even show at all.

So there is a possibility of a person having a STD without them knowing it. However, there are common STD symptoms, and they should be minded well. For women, sores, blisters or bumps may grow in the genitals, the anus or the mouth. Burning or itching sensation may arise when urinating. Unusual odor or discharge from the vagina or anus may manifest. The vagina may also bleed other than regular menstruation. Pains or aches may be experienced in the lower abdomen. What are possible STD symptoms in men? Sores, blisters or bumps in the genitals, mouth or anus may develop.

Men could experience burning and itching sensation when urinating as well. The genitals may give off unusual discharge. Itching, pain or discharge can be experienced in the anus. If you suspect one or any of these STD symptoms beset you, don't panic. These symptoms can be that of a sexually transmitted disease, or maybe they are not. The best way for you to determine is to have a STD test. Do not second guess when it comes to this disease. Your first instinct may be to rush to the internet for self-diagnosis, but this is far too consequential. The most mature decision you can do is visit your doctor.

Wherein there is better certainty about your disease and its treatment.

Do You Need an STD Test If You Don't Have Symptoms?

Thankfully, plenty of people today are aware of the importance of STD testing. On the other hand, there are some people out there who have certain misconceptions about STDs that could end up harming them and their partners in the long run. One such mistaken belief is the notion that if a person isn't experiencing any obvious STD symptoms, then he doesn't need to get tested for STDs. A lack of STD symptoms should never serve as an excuse not to get tested.

One of the most alarming facts about STDs is that many of them are asymptomatic. Though most people tend to associate STD symptoms with itching, burning sensations in the, ahem, private regions of the body, the reality is that a person could be infected with an STD and not feel a thing. However, just because your body might not give you any indication of the presence of an STD doesn't mean that you don't have one.

Another thing to keep in mind is that sometimes it can be difficult for people to correctly identify the symptoms associated with STDs. Certain symptoms, especially when present in a minor fashion, can be confused with less threatening conditions such as light allergic reactions or simple rashes. Even more disruptive symptoms such as painful urination could be initially mistaken for conditions such as run of the mill urinary tract infections. The only way to ensure that your symptoms aren't indicative of an STD is to get yourself tested as needed. Of course, one other scary thing to remember about STDs is that it is possible to get infected with more than one. While it clearly makes sense to get tested for diseases that medically correspond to your specific symptoms, in some cases, it might also be a good idea to have multiple STD tests run on you to cover your bases.

One major reason to get tested event without the presence of STD symptoms is that for some infections, early treatment can prevent long-term medical consequences and complications. Unfortunately, many STDs either don't display symptoms at all, or don't start to present warning signs until it's too late. Therefore, the best way to protect yourself from major health-related repercussions is to get tested early and, when necessary, seek treatment before it's too late.

Tracey Powell's philosophy is that the more people know about STDs, the better equipped they'll be to protect themselves. Now that you're aware of the fact that STDs don't always come with symptoms, it's time to do an honest evaluation of your risk factors to determine if you ought to undergo STD testing. Click the 'Get Test Recommendation' button at getSTDtested.com, and you'll get STD tests recommended based on your own profile and CDC and expert guidelines. There are no excuses not to get tested and take control of your health.

Tracey Powell is the founder and CEO of getSTDtested.com, an online company that allows customers to order and undergo STD testing in a manner that uniquely protects their privacy, and he feels that education about STDs needs to go hand in hand with testing.

STD Symptoms and Services

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are illnesses that are mainly caused by the infection being transmitted from one person to another during sexual contact. With at least 25 different types of sexually transmitted diseases, there is a huge range of different symptoms within all of these infections. These diseases are typically spread through vaginal intercourse, oral sex or anal sex.

Most STDs will only affect you if you have sexual contact with a person who has a sexually transmitted disease. However, there are certain infections like scabies, which are referred to as STDs because they are mostly transmitted sexually, but can also be passed on in other methods. For example, even someone with Syphilis may pass on the infection by a simple handshake or any other type of body contact.

STD Symptoms For Men

STD is the shortened form for sexually transmitted diseases. They are diseases that are transferred through sexual contact be it vaginal, anal or oral intercourse. For men, the symptoms of these various STDs are far easier to detect and see as compared to those in the females. The male reproductive organs are mostly exposed and external making detection far easier. Most STDs in the male body can be seen in the penis, anus, rectum, and scrotum and these areas are the places where symptoms are usually seen. It is therefore advantageous for you to know what these symptoms are so as not to mistake them for any other illness.

One of these STDs is Chlamydia. Men suffer from the terrible effects of this STD even though most of the people afflicted with this illness are women. Symptoms appear 1 to 3 weeks after initial contact with the infection and are usually manifested by a burning sensation while urinating. Itchiness in the penis and testicles as well as pain and swelling in the area are also commonly found. A clear discharge that comes from the genitals is an indicative sign of Chlamydia.

Gonorrhea on the other hand shares a lot of common symptoms with Chlamydia. However, the problem lies with the fact that a lot of men actually show no signs of the disease. The symptoms, if they do appear, show themselves 2 to 10 days after being exposed to the infection. They also feel a burning sensation whilst urinating accompanied by pain during sexual intercourse, frequent feelings of urinating, and a thick, bloody, and cloudy discharge that is usually yellow, green or white in color that comes from the genitals. If the man performed oral sex, he may also experience sore throat.

Syphilis is another STD that is very common. Its tell-tale sign is the appearance of a painless sore known as Chancre that is found in the genitals, scrotum, and anus. The sore appears 10 to 90 days after contact with the causative agent and usually lasts up to 3 to 6 weeks. It will heal spontaneously and if left untreated will proceed to the 2nd stage of the illness where there are appearances of rashes all over the body, usually in the palm of the hands and the soles of the feet. These symptoms eventually disappear for some time and will comeback after a while bringing in more bad news. Organ damage may now result and blindness, paralysis and even death may happen.

With all of these symptoms, it is hard to know what type of STD you may have. Also, some if not most of these symptoms are generally shared by other STDs and non-STD conditions. It is, therefore, quite hard to tell if you have an STD or what type of STD you have. Your safest bet would be to go to an STD clinic and get tested, especially if you are sexually active. You may never know what may happen to you if you leave things untreated and as is.

Symptoms of STDs - Sexual Transmitted Diseases Quick Info

Sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs, are passed from one person to another via sexual acts such as oral sex, anal sex, and penetrative sexual intercourse. There are currently 25 STDs known to the medical community with the most common being syphilis, hepatitis A and B, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and AIDS. These sexually transmitted diseases stem from bacteria, viruses, and fungi that live and multiply in various bodily fluids. The risk of being afflicted with STDs can be increased by having more than one sexual partner as well as engaging in sexual acts with someone who has more than one partner. However, using a condom can greatly lower the risk of contracting all STDs.

Because there is a wide variety of sexually transmitted diseases, there are many symptoms associated with these types of diseases. For example, syphilis is most often realized when small genital warts, clinically called chancres, are present. The chancres, which are similar in size to buttons, may also be seen on the anus and in the throat region. Gonorrhea, also known as "the drip disease" or "the clap," creates a discharge that comes from the penis or vulva and is similar in consistency to mucus. Those who contract genital herpes will notice blister-like ulcers appearing around the genitalia area. In many cases, those with an STD will also suffer from urinary issues.

Although there are vaccines for hepatitis A and B, the only way to be completely protected from any STD is by practicing abstinence. This is why it is recommended to restrict the amount of sexual partners you have to people with clean sexual health histories; this is the most effective way of reducing the risk of STDs. Condoms are also highly effective in preventing sexually transmitted diseases but only when the condom is used properly; otherwise, there is a greater chance of becoming infected. It is important to remember that condoms are not 100% foolproof and are only able to prevent the male penis from coming in contact with the female skin. The genitalia area is still susceptible to STDs such as syphilis even if a condom is used per manufacturer and medical instructions.

If anyone has tested positive for any type of STD, it is imperative to halt all sexual acts until they receive appropriate medical treatment. Except for AIDS, there are treatments for all other STDs and the earlier treatment is received, the better the outcome for the patient. While there are complete cures for a variety of these diseases, some can only be managed through treatment.

The biggest concern medical professionals have regarding STDs is the various complications that can arise. Sometimes infected men may become impotent or experience erectile dysfunction and women can suffer from infertility. Both genders may feel pain and other abnormal sensations while urinating. Other STD symptoms may include blisters, itching, tenderness, and severe pain around affected areas of the body.

It is possible to control the spread of STDs through proper, accurate education. However, since many sexual transmitted diseases stay dormant for months to years from the time of infection, once the visual signs are noticeable, the disease may have spread to dozens of other people so those who are sexually active should always get tested for STDs.

STD Symptoms and What They Mean

For many people, a night out on the town can start in a bar and end in a hotel room. You may go on your way after that, thinking nothing of it until the person you were with calls you to suggest that you get checked, or you begin to notice certain symptoms that make you think you may have an STD. Nobody wants to be randomly tested, so how do you know what STD symptoms are? There is a common set of symptoms that many STDs exhibit, so here are a few to look out for.

The most commonly noticed symptom is a rash that is centered around the genitals and is often associated by an itch that seems to burn. This can also be a precursor to sores, blisters or welts in this area. It can be very annoying as it really can't be scratched to relieve the itching.

Another of the STD symptoms that can frequently be present is a difficulty in urination or a burning sensation while urinating. Many viral STD infections cause the urethral lining to become inflamed, which causes this burning sensation or the difficulty in urination. These types of symptoms are also common with other infections, such as bladder or prostate infections, so they are not conclusive and should be tested to determine the cause. If you have burning or difficulty in urinating, you may want to look for some of the other common symptoms.

One of the hardest STD symptoms to determine is swelling or tenderness of the genitals, because it can occur for a wide variety of reasons, not just as an indicator of an STD. Usually, if you have this symptom, you will want to look for other common symptoms to help you make a better determination.

One of the most noticeable STD symptoms can be a discharge or pus from the vagina or urethra. It is often the first symptom to be noticed and reported. However, pus and discharge can be symptoms of other infections and conditions as well.

The main thing to understand here is that if you have any question that you may have contracted an STD, and you have one or more of these symptoms, you should not ignore the possibilities. Getting tested early can confirm the condition and help you to avoid further problems. Although there is no cure for some STDs, there is treatment for many of them and you will want to know in order to protect yourself and others.

Afraid of STD Testing? Be More Afraid of Ignoring the Symptoms

After that entertaining and memorable night in the back room of the bar with the four members of the Norwegian delegation of the international association of Hooters waitresses you probably feel like a real stud. It was a night that every man dreams of. In fact, the bartender was so impressed with your performance he wants to put your cowboy boots on the shelf above the bar as a tribute to your incredible abilities as a man, neigh a god among men, and also to celebrate a bought of sexual Olympics that will go down in history almost as epic.

However, now a week later you know two supremely serious things to be a reality. First you know that the pool table at the bar will probably never shoot level again, and furthermore every time you urinate it burns like wildfire. You may deep down know that you want to go to a clinic to undertake some form of STD testing, but you are afraid of hearing the truth that you may get back positive results. You know that STD testing is a critical process that can possible save your life; but still you are reluctant to go and talk to someone. Instead, you are pleased to take your chances that the pins and needles feeling that runs the entire length of your penis with every emptying of your bladder is just a coincidence. You tell yourself that the girls all looked healthy, so there is nothing to worry about. You may very well be correct but without proper STD testing you will never know for sure and, therefore, you are putting your own self at risk as well as putting your future sex partners at risk.

So there are a few things that you will need to know before you step foot inside your doctor's office for STD testing. The first thing that you need to remember is more to stop the embarrassment than anything else. Do not brag to the doctor about your feat. Now getting back to things to expect when going for STD testing. Remember that not all STD testing tasks are done for men and women. There are specific tests that only apply to men and certain ones that are for women. If you are sure that the people who you set new feats, and discovered new positions with are under 25, then get tested for the most common of STD's, gonorrhea and Chlamydia. These are the two most commonly passed STD's that men need to worry about.

When this test is done you will have the inside of your penis swabbed. This will then be sent to a laboratory to be analyzed. Your doctor may also elect to have you do a urine analysis to provide additional STD testing for these two. This is a vital check to have done as this can detect a problem before there is one. There are several other diseases that you can be tested for during your STD testing, these use almost the same procedures as the two mentioned here. This I hope will teach you a lesson that next time wear protection before you aspire to perform original and remarkable feats.

The Symptoms of HIV in Both Men and Women

HIV is a type of virus that attacks and weakens the cells of the immune system of those who are infected. If left untreated, the disease will eventually progress into AIDS. Bodily fluids, such as vaginal fluids, semen, or blood is a receptacle of the virus. Since the virus cannot survive for long periods outside the body, the virus needs to be transmitted by having an infected person's bodily fluids inside his/her body. The virus enters the body via the bloodstream or through the mucous membranes of the rectum, urethra, or vagina, as well as the mouth.

The initial symptoms show after being infected vary between genders. HIV symptoms in men may include, but may not be limited to, fever as well as headaches of a periodic though mild nature may be experienced, though these are no different from normal symptoms of some slight ailments we normally experience. The male may notice a marked swelling of his lymph glands---the glands located in his groin, neck, or armpits. One of these areas may swell, though it does not normally bring discomfort or pain. As with the former, this may be misdiagnosed as signs of other conditions.

Another signs of probable HIV symptoms in men is a dramatic change in their stamina or energy level. Fatigue and unexplainable tiredness may be experienced, though it is usually mistaken for fatigue or stress from over-exertion or a hectic work schedule.

Originally, more men were infected with HIV than women, yet a large number of women today account for the greater number of new HIV cases, and it is slowly on the rise. AIDS ranks next to heart disease and cancer as one of the main ailments which cause death in women. African-American women, especially those of the younger generation are more largely affected, compared to older African-Americans. HIV symptoms in women remain asymptomatic for a long period of time, usually taking three years or more before manifesting symptoms.

HIV symptoms in women usually involve persistent recurrences of vaginal infections, among which include yeast infections. PID or pelvic inflammatory disease, as well as abnormalities in their pap smears are also common symptoms, followed by ulcers or genital warts.

Abnormalities in the natural rhythm of their monthly cycles are also signs of HIV infection. A series of missed periods, discounting the possibility of pregnancy, is one notable abnormality. In the long run, the infected female may cease to have any periods at all. Within a couple of weeks, the infected female may feel flu-like symptoms, aches and pains in various parts of the body, fever, tiredness, and sore throat. These are sigs of the body trying to fend off the infection. Weight loss due to frequent diarrhea or loss of appetite may also occur.

Once any or all of these symptoms occur, the best course of action one can take is to contact a medical professional and schedule an HIV testing session. Getting an HIV test isn't at all dreadful, and one shouldn't worry about expense or the possibility of embarrassment. There are a great number of HIV testing clinics which offer quick, reliable, affordable, and most of all confidential tests. Getting an HIV test is not only a boon for your health, but it could also benefit those who might become victims of the disease due to your being unaware of them catching it from you.

Trichomoniasis STD Symptoms

Trichomoniasis is the most common curable sexually transmitted disease (STD) among men and women. It is often called "trich". This disease is caused by protozoan known as trichomonas vaginalis and is spread through sexual intercourse or even just sexual contact. Vaginal, anal or oral intercourse can transmit the disease from one person to another. Women can get the disease from both men and women while men get it only from their female sex partners. The parasite that can be transmitted through sexual contact may also live in towels, clothing and bedding.

Trichomoniasis has been reported in up to 7.4 million cases each year in the US. Although both men and women can contract the STD, women are at a higher risk. Most individuals become infected of this STD between 16 to 35 years old. If this disease is left untreated, the indications or symptoms may become awfully unpleasant and may even do damage to your health. Women with untreated trichomoniasis develop a greater risk to acquiring human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Generally, only women experience the symptoms of trichomoniasis. Even if men are infected with the disease, they most often do not show any symptoms of the STD. A large percentage, around 60%, of the women who have trich will go through some indications of the disease. These normally come into sight within 5 to 28 days of infection. In some cases, it takes up to 6 months before symptoms develop.

Women with trich are likely to experience vaginal discharge with color of either gray or yellow-green. This vaginal secretion will be frothy or bubbly and will be far from being aromatic. The labia may become swollen and the vagina will appear to be redder than the usual. Other symptoms may include pain and burning when you're urinating and sexual intercourse. A less general indicator of this STD is lower abdominal pain; it occurs only in about 10% of infected women. These symptoms do not disappear until they are treated by prescription drugs.

Men do not commonly exhibit indications of trichomoniasis. The parasite that causes the infection stays in the urethra (urinary tract) of men that makes the symptoms rare and diagnosis much harder. Around 40% of infected men will go through very mild symptoms. The symptoms of this STD on men are a tingling sensation in their penis and pain during urination and sexual intercourse. There may also be an evidence of white discharge from the penis. Symptoms of the disease in men are likely to disappear within a few weeks, but this does not mean that they cannot infect their sex partners anymore. Men will continue to infect women if their infection is left untreated.

If the condition is left uncured, trich can last for a number of years. An infected person will find the infections extremely uncomfortable and may also increase his or her risk for various infections. Men are at greater risks to develop penis infection, urethritis and prostate problems while women increase their chance to acquire HIV infection. In order to be completely sure that you don't have trichomoniasis, you should be sure to get tested every now and then.
