STD Symptoms - What to Watch For


Sexually transmitted diseases are generally transmitted through sexual contact, but infected needles might be a cause also. Apart from that, it can be transmitted from mother to child, or infected blood transfusion. People who are sexually active having multiple partners are more prone to get infected. Symptoms are never taken seriously in these cases as most people do not realize that they are infected unless it becomes severe. You need to get tested regularly so you know about our own sexual health and take steps to cure the disease if any.

Look Out For These Symptoms

Symptoms for the STDs vary from case to case, but most common include painful urination, rashes, itchy sensation in the pubic region, sometimes flaky skin too. You might feel that it is taboo to talk about STDs and feel embarrassed to visit a doctor too. A visit to an STD clinic becomes necessary if men experience tiny painful sores on the penis, sometimes accompanied with flu like symptoms and swollen glands, which are commonly mistaken for insect bites may turn out to be herpes. Gonorrhea and chlamydia have other symptoms, such as, painful urination and intercourse. Burning, itching sensations around the genitals is also evident. Swelling of the testicles and abnormal discharge, and bleeding in the anus if indulging in anal sex too is a symptom also.

Women tend to experience painful urination and intercourse, bleeding in between the menstrual cycle and sore throat too can be signs. All these symptoms can be mistaken for some other disease and that is why they are so dangerous. Flaky skin and lice in the pubic area leaving bluish marks too are signs to be wary about. Regular testing and early treatment is the solution for a healthy and happy sexual life. When treated on time, the ailments can be cured. HIV too can be kept in control with proper care.
