Beware of STD Symptoms!

STDS, or Sexually Transmitted Diseases, can afflict anyone at any age as long as they are sexually active. Single, married, straight or gay people who engage in oral, anal and vaginal sex are the very likely candidates for this nerve wracking affliction. Contrary to popular belief, STDs are not only transferred through sexual intercourse. One can have STDs through physical contact with a person infected with the disease as long as there are open sores and wounds on the skin. If left untreated, STDs could lead to worse cases of other disease ultimately AIDS or death. The best way to combat this disease is to educate the public. It is best to make people aware of STD symptoms so they can take the necessary precautions to avoid having this disease.

STDs come with a long list of diseases. They are Chlamydia, Genital Herpes (HSV-2), Genital Warts, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B (HBV), HIV and AIDS, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), Public Lice (Crabs), Syphilis, Trichomoniasis and Bacterial Vaginosis (BIV).

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection and may be easily treated. This disease is spread by coming in contact with the discharge of infected people. This disease may show no signs of STD symptoms but the effects may manifest after 2 to 3 weeks of exposure. Nausea, fever, lower abdominal pain, vaginal discharge in women, penile discharge in men, feeling pain during intercourse for women and testicular pain in men are the most evident signs of having Chlamydia. This disease greatly affects the cervix and urethra of women causing bleeding between menstrual cycles. If left untreated, the disease can spread to the rectum and destroy the woman's reproductive organs leading to their infertility.

Gonorrhea share similar symptoms to Chlamydia. Like Chlamydia, one can get Gonorrhea by coming in contact with infectious discharges. STD symptoms of this disease appear in 2 to 10 days after exposure. Men infected with this disease experience a white cloudy discharge from their penis, frequent urination with a burning painful sensation every time they urinate and pain during sexual intercourse. Physically, men afflicted with gonorrhea have swollen and painful testicles.

Syphilis on the other hand is a viral disease that can be life-threatening. There are more obvious symptoms to this disease but the best way to detect for infection is to have a blood test. This disease can be transferred by means of oral and genital sex. Women infected with Syphilis can transfer the disease to their unborn babies. The infected babies can be born dead or damaged. The first symptoms of having Syphilis is the appearance of a sore called Chancre. Chancre can be one or several round sores that appear on the penis, vagina and rectum. They easily spread and are very chronic. Once they are treated they can recur several times in a year over a long period of non-appearance. They can infect other people if they have open wounds or sores on the skin where the virus can penetrate. Other symptoms of Syphilis are: losing patches of hair and eyebrows, rashes on the body especially on the bottoms of the feet and hands.
